RMCO: Efforts to block PATI entry intensified, increased restrictions at illegal routes
Ismail Sabri said 1,517 PATI had been detained under the integrated operations on various immigration offences.
Efforts to curb the entry of illegal immigrants (PATI) have been intensified with 61 roadblocks by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) through Op Benteng across the country until Thursday.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the authorities had also inspected 28,430 vehicles especially in illegal routes.
In the joint operation, he said the PDRM also arrested four foreigners at roadblocks on immigration offenses on Thursday.
"The government will take firm action against anyone trying to enter the country's borders illegally.
"Enforcement agencies will continue to tighten border controls especially in illegal routes," he said at a daily press conference here on Friday.
According to him, up to 1,517 PATI had been detained under the integrated operations on various immigration offences.
"The government has taken proactive measures to screen the detained PATI of COVID-19 and those found positive have been sent to the Low Risk COVID-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centre at MAEPS, Serdang.
"The cumulative number of patients receiving treatment at MAEPS is 813 individuals. Of these, 430 PATI have been discharged and will be sent back to their home countries," he added.
