The large number of individuals being punished for defying the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) shows that many Malaysians still chose to disobey the standard operating procedures (SOP) to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, yesterday alone, the police detained 184 people for defying the RMCO, with 135 were issued compounds, while 49 were remanded for further investigations.
“The police will be strict and will not compromise with errant individuals. Among the offences are not wearing a face mask, exceeding the approved operation hours, being involved in pub activities and disobeying the home quarantine order.
“The Compliance Operation Task Force will continue to increase their inspections and take action against owners of premises and members of the public who fail to comply with the RMCO SOP,” he said in a press conference on the latest development of the RMCO at the Parliament Building here today.
He said the police also conducted 77 Ops Benteng roadblocks yesterday, in which 35,520 vehicles were inspected and 14 foreigners were arrested for immigration offences.

On the development of the administrative Targeted Enhanced Movement Control Order (TEMCO) in Kedah and Perlis, he stressed said that visitors and local residents were strictly prohibited from entering and leaving the areas.
“The police will be patrolling the TEMCO areas at all times and will take stern action on those who violated the directives, including bringing them to court,” he said.
