The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) has identified several of its personnel believed to be involved in the so-called IS militant group activities through the social media.
Its chief, Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Jaafar, said the RMN was now working closely with the police to carry out thorough investigations on the matter.
"We have called them for interrogations and have requested the police assistance to carry out thorough investigations. We have also been informed by the police that their investigations so far found that some of RMN officers have connections with the militant group.
"In this matter, we are prepared to allow our men to be investigated as we want the IS militant activities to be eradicated in total," he told reporters after attending the RMN 81st anniversary parade at KD Pelandok here on Monday.
He said the RMN had always reminded its members that the IS militant group was a huge threat to the nation's security.
On Sunday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the police had seized explosives and detained 12 locals linked to the IS group of militants on suspicion of plotting to launch attacks on strategic and important targets in the Klang Valley.
In another development, Abdul Aziz said for the first time, a daily childcare centre had been set up in RMN's base here for its members to leave their children while they were at work.
He said the RMN also planned to set two more childcare centres this year, namely at RMN base in Tanjung Gelang, Pahang and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
