RMN officer acquitted on charges of making false claims

The Sessions Court here today acquitted and discharged a Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) officer on two counts of making false claims, involving purchase of rations worth USD 63,677.74 (RM194,853), six years ago.

Judge Julie Lack Abdullah ordered Lieutenant commander Ahmad Shukry Osman, 40, from the RMN Lumut base, to be freed after finding that the prosecution had failed to establish the two charges against him.

Ahmad Shukry, who was the supply officer of RMN vessel KD Mahawangsa, was alleged to have used a false Landmark Trading Pte Ltd invoice dated June 3, 2006 to make a claim of USD46,813 (RM173,208.10) for the purchase of fresh rations for the vessel in June 2006.

He was also accused of using another false invoice from the same company to make a claim of USD16,864.17 (RM62,399.53) for the same purpose in August 2006. Both the offences were allegedly committed on KD Mahawangsa.

Deputy public prosecutor from the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) A Hafiizh Abu Bakar prosecuted, while lawyer Norhasham Hasan represented Ahmad Shukry.
