RNC: Politics should be a long-term commitment

That was the sentiment voiced by Lembah Pantai candidate, Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin popularly known as RNC who will be up against Nurul Izzah Anwar for this upcoming general election.

“I’m a firm believer that as a politician, we have to focus on the core issues rather than emotional issues.

“As for me, I would like to improve the quality of life of the residents here in Lembah Pantai because majority of the people here are from the lower income group,” said RNC.

With the increasing cost of living, RNC said life is tough for the residents there.

“I would like to see more direct communication between the people and the government. This way the government will be aware of the people’s need and find ways to help them have a better life,” he added.

Growing up in Bangsar is where he started his own family, marrying his high school sweetheart, Datin Nafesah Raja Nong Chik. Together they are blessed with two children, Raja Hamzah and Raja Farhana

“I grew up here. I have given my service to the Lembah Pantai residents even before I was a minister. I have been going to the ground since 25 years ago and I have proven my sincerity by giving my service to the people as a minister for the past four years,” he added.

RNC received his early education at Methodist Boys' School, Kuala Lumpur before continuing his studies at Victoria Institution and the Royal Military College.

He started his career at FELCRA and FIMA before becoming an entrepreneur. As an entrepreneur, RNC had managed to expand and diversify business logistics, manufacturing, engineering as well as a few other sectors.

RNC is actively involved in the growth of entrepreneurship, and was a member of the National Innovation Council besides serving as President of Manufacturers and Services Industry Association of Bumiputra Malaysia (PPIPBM).

He became a Senator of the Dewan Negara in April 2009, and was appointed as the Federal Territories & Urban Wellbeing Minister.

There are approximately 72,396 voters for the upcoming 13th General Election in Lembah Pantai with 52% of them are Malays, followed by the Chinese at 26% and Indians at 21%.

The current Member of Parliament for the Lembah Pantai is Nurul Izzah Anwar from Parti Keadilan Rakyat, who won the seat in the 2008 general election from the incumbent Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil representing the Barisan Nasional ruling coalition. Shahrizat had held the seat since 1995.
