Road obstruction: 15 Pokemon GO players receive police summons

Fifteen vehicle owners in George Town were issued summons by the Penang police for parking their vehicles, mostly comprising motorcycles, on road shoulders last night.

They were believed to have do so in their search for virtual monsters in the mobile application game Pokemon GO.

Northeast district police chief, ACP Mior Farid Al Atrash Wahid said the summons, issued along Lebuh Acheh and Lebuh Canon, were due to complaints from nearby residents.

He said, residents claimed that groups of people, believed to be playing Pokemon GO, have been disrupting peace in the area.

“Of late, there have been many of these Pokemon GO players gathering on Lebuh Aceh, making noise and disturbing the peace of residents.

“I’ve duly instructed the traffic police to act against those who park their vehicles on the road shoulder as well as advise those playing the game to not make much of a nuisance around the area,” Mior Farid told reporters today.

He added that it was not a crime to play the game but players should be reminded to not go to the extent of disrupting peace and harmony of public neighbourhoods, besides adhering to road rules and not playing the game while driving.
