Robbers escaped with cash of RM1.6 million in Jalan Klang Lama

A group of robbers armed with machetes, rambo knife and a pistol escaped with cash of RM1.6 million belonging to a gold distributing company in an incident in Jalan Klang Lama here Tuesday.
Brickfields Police chief ACP Sharul Othman Mansor said in the 10 am incident, two of the company's workers comprising a runner and a security guard, aged 32 and 54, were riding separate motorcycles and heading to a bank in Taman Desa to deposit the money when they were stopped by 11 men on five motorcycles and a car.
"The robbers first knocked down the security guard's motorcycle and pointed a pistol and a rambo knife to the two victims, before snatching the bag containing the cash from the other victim," he told Bernama when contacted here.
Sharul Othman said the security guard sustained a broken shoulder, while the runner sustained a minor injury.
He said the registration number of one of the motorcycles used by the robbers had been identified and their photofit images were being finalised.
The forensic team had also taken fingerprints at the scene and was studying the footage of the closed circuit cameras at the location, he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping if convicted.
