Robbers flee with gems worth RM150,000 in Melaka

A group of robbers escaped with jewellery and gems worth RM150,000 after entering the gold shop through the roof today.
The incident is believed to have taken place between 7pm Wednesday and 6am today at Jalan Laksamana, Bandar Hilir, Melaka.
The robbers are also believed to have broken into the vault containing jewellery as soon as they entered the shop.
Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Shaikh Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdullah said police investigation revealed that the robbery was carried out by more than one person.
He said the shop owner only realised the incident when he went to open the shop at about 9am today.
The owner had closed the shop at about 7pm yesterday.
“At about 9.45am, IPD Melaka Tengah received a call about the robbery. Based on investigation, we found that the robbers had entered the shop through the roof and straight away broke into the vault,” he said.
He said the robbers had first entered the shop beside the jewellery shop which had been abandoned for almost seven years. They are believed to have then entered the jewellery shop through the roof.
He said police are currently studying the CCTV in the premise in its probe into the incident.
