Two men failed to escape with the RM200,000 they robbed from a businessman when one of them was shot by his bodyguard in front of a bank in Taman Sri Muda, Seksyen 25 here Friday.
Shah Alam District Police Chief, ACP Shafien Mamat said in the 2.30pm incident, the 58-year-old businessman, who has the Datuk Seri title, had just withdrawn the money from the bank when he was attacked by two suspects armed with a parang and an axe, and seized his bag of money.
"At the same time, the victim's bodyguard fired a shot at one of the suspects, causing him to fall, and the guard managed to snatch the bag back. The other suspect escaped and efforts are being made to trace him," he told reporters when met at the scene.
Shafien said the suspect who could not escape was shot in his buttocks while the bodyguard, in his 30s, was slightly injured in his torso as a result of his struggle with the suspect.
Both were currently hospitalised here while the businessman who also suffered injuries, was being treated at a hospital in Klang, he said.
Shafien said investigations into the Yamaha motorcycle used by the two suspects found that it was stolen in Cheras last month.
"The bodyguard had a licence to carry a gun and we are also investigating how many shots were fired.
"We will also study the recording of the closed-circuit television owned by the Shah Alam City Council at the scene," he said.
Shafien urged members of the public who witnessed the incident to come forward to assist investigations.
