It was a brave act to tail the perpetrators who robbed him of his belongings.
Despite having a samurai sword pointed at him just moments earlier, a contractor decided to follow the five men who robbed him in Klang, all the way to Ampang.
The 33-year-old victim drove his car and tailed the suspects without their knowledge from Bukit Tinggi to Taman Melati, over a distance of 60km. His brave act subsequently led to the arrest of the five, South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Kamarul Zaman Mamat said.
In the 5am incident today, the victim was believed to be heading home in Bandar Botanic, Klang after meeting his friend in a restaurant at Jalan Batu Nilam 34B, Taman Bukit Tinggi 2.
"As he walked to his car, five men approached him. One of them pointed a samurai sword at him and forced him to give up his backpack," Kamarul Zaman in a statement.
Worried for his safety, the victim gave up his bag and the suspects immediately fled the area in two cars, a white Proton Preve and a red Toyota Camry.
Among the items in the bag were RM10,000 cash, three cheques, two mobile phones, keys, two credit cards and the victim's driving license.
"The victim decided to follow the suspects without their knowledge, thinking he may have an opportunity to recover his belongings," Kamarul Zaman said.
His chance came when the suspects decided to stop for a meal at a 24-hour fast food outlet in Ampang.
The victim immediately called the Ampang police who came soon after and arrested the suspects.
"The five, aged between 28 and 35 years, were arrested while eating at the restaurant. The police seized several items including a samurai sword, two machetes, two sticks and a piece of steel baton," said Kamarul Zaman.
On top of the victim's belongings, the police also seized 14 mobile phones, RM709 cash and the two cars driven by the suspects.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 396/397 of the Penal Code for armed gang robbery.
