The price of RON95 petrol is likely to stay at RM2.30 a litre until June next year, said Deputy Finance Minister, Datuk Ahmad Maslan.
He said the petrol subsidy rationalisation exercise was unlikely until the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism implemented the targeted fuel subsidy mechanism in June 2015.
"The system is still under study. Until now, what I know of is that the system which is to be implemented will use the MyKad," he told reporters after officiating the National Tax Seminar here today.
He said the system would be implemented next January for the subsidised diesel as recently announced by the ministry's secretary-general recently.
Meanwhile, he said the Finance Ministry has requested the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism to change the term 'service charge' imposed by some restaurants and hotels to 'restaurant charge' or 'hotel charge'.
"This to ensure the consumers are not confused by the terms as they think the 10 percent will go to the government," he said.
