Registrar of Societies (RoS) has welcomed the call by MIC president, Datuk Seri G.Palanivel to hold fresh elections at all levels, from the branch to central working committee (CWC), in June.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the call was in tandem with the MIC constitution and regulations under the Societies Act 1966.
"I have had discussions with RoS on MIC's position and we welcome the call by MIC president to hold fresh elections in June," he told reporters after launching the police football teams' 2015 Season Super League here today.
He said Palanivel's suggestion to have fresh elections should be adopted by all quarters.
"I hope after this MIC will be one team and recognise those who won by conducting their campaigns in a clean manner," he said.
Ahmad Zahid added he was optimistic MIC members at the branch level would hold their campaigns and election in accordance with the regulations and MIC constitution.
The MIC internal crisis arose after RoS cancelled the election for the post of three vice presidents and 23 central working committee (CWC) members during the MIC general assembly in Melaka in November, 2013.
In a letter dated Dec 5, 2014, RoS ordered MIC to hold a re-election for these posts within 90 days following allegations of irregularities and breach of the party constitution and Societies Act.
