Prime Minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor today called on corporate bodies and government-linked companies (GLCs) to contribute part of their profits to the Warriors' Fund.
She said the move could be likened as a token of appreciation and a symbol of respect for the sacrifices of the Malaysian Armed Forces veterans.
"I was sad when informed that only a small number of GLCs and corporate bodies were willing to make contributions to the Warriors' Fund. To me, that is very disappointing as the government always encouraged that part of company profits be allocated for public welfare through corporate social responsibility programmes.
"Remember that the peace we enjoy today is the results of the veterans' blood and sweat," she said in her speech at the launch of the 2016 Warriors' Fund Campaign here today.
Also present were Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharum and Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) chief General Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin.
Rosmah, who is the Patron of the Warriors' Fund Campaign, also called on the public to show appropriate appreciation to the veterans, their widows or children, in terms of financial aid and support, to help them lead a better life.
At the same time, she said the veterans were fortunate as the government cared about them and had never forgotten or neglected their well-being.
"The Malaysian government is very concerned about the welfare of the veterans, and has continued providing assistance through the Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Affairs Department, including monthly support, schooling aid, medical equipment, entry into universities and disaster relief assistance," she said.
To date, she said the Warriors' Fund had raised RM1.4 million from various sectors and the public.
