RTD awaits govt's decision before taking any action on Uber, Grabcar service
About 300 taxi drivers staged a protest against Uber and GrabCar around the Bukit Bintang area in Kuala Lumpur last Tuesday.
The Road Transport Department (RTD) is waiting for the government's announcement regarding the online transportation service, Uber and GrabCar, before taking any further action on the matter, RTD director-general Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad said.
He said there had yet to be any action taken against Uber or GrabCar drivers as the government was still reviewing the service.
"So, we have to wait for the government's policy (on Uber and GrabCar service). If the service is allowed, what would be the implementation methods?" he told reporters when asked about the Uber service and GrabCar after attending the 70th RTD Day celebration, Friday.
Approximately 300 taxi drivers staged a protest against Uber and GrabCar around the Bukit Bintang area in Kuala Lumpur last Tuesday, causing a two-hour traffic congestion in the heart of the city.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in his blog NajibRazak.com on Thursday said that a fair and equitable solution to the issue would be found soon in the interests of consumers and service providers.
