The Road Transport Department (RTD) will expand the RTD cadet programme to all schools nationwide beginning next year.
Its director-general Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad said so far, more than 700 students from 16 schools had become RTD cadets, including Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Padang Midin in Terengganu, with 90 JPJ cadets.
He said the cadet programme was introduced early last year and it was well-received by many schools.
"The setting up of the cadet programme aims to enhance public awareness on road safety and to reduce road accidents in the country," he said after the handing over of computers and printers at Sekolah Kebangsaan Wakaf Mempelam here, Saturday.
Also present were State RTD director Abdul Rahman Emang Anyie and SK Wakaf Mempelam headmistress Zahariah Mohamad.
