Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak praised the Road Transport Department for setting up the 1JPJ Young Squad (SM1JPJ) which was officially launched on Sunday.

The Prime Minister said setting up the SM1JPJ was in line with the government's efforts to enhance youth friendly initiatives.

"The setting up of the 1JPJ Young Squad is in line with the youth friendly initiatives. Syabas," he said in his Twitter account when commenting on the Bernama newslink that was headlined '21,000 Volunteers Join Skuad Muda 1JPJ'.

Road Transport Department director-general Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad had on Monday said 21,000 volunteers throughout the country had joined as SM1JPJ and would be assigned for their maiden duties during the Chinese New Year safety campaign from Jan 24 to Feb 9, 2014.

Ismail said SM1JPJ's objective was to create awareness among the people of road safety and traffic rules while they would be stationed at 157 locations, including the Rest & Recreation (R&R) area along the North South Expressway and at every 30km of Federal and state roads.

He had said SM1JPJ volunteers would be mobilised to help monitor motorists during the festive season and they would provide information to RTD on motorists who violate traffic regulations.
