Rukun Negara shouldn't stay only at the back of school exercise books

It has been exposed to children the moment they go to school, but it seem like no one taught the young how to practise it.

Social activists, Anas Zubedy said that Rukun Negara shouldn't stay only behind school exercise books.

He added, children should be taught on what it means to Malaysia.

"Lets say 'Kepercayaan Kepada Tuhan, or Believing in God. Put aside the ritual part but we should taught them how to practise such as keeping your promises and so on" said Anas.

Another panelists, the co-founder and president of Pure Life Society Datin Paduka Mother A Mangalam said that we should continuously talk and remind about it.

"We have to continuosly talk about it and in fact it can bring a united Malaysia" said Mother Mangalam.

The 5th Merdeka Award Roundtables topic brought three panelists to discuss about The Rukun Negara (National Principles) that seems to be forgotten.

The Rukun Negara is the Malaysian declaration of national philosophy instituted by royal proclamation on Merdeka Day, 1970, in reaction to a serious race riot known as the May 13 Incident which occurred in 1969.

The incident proved at that time that Malaysian racial balance and stability was fragile.

Immediately thereafter, the Malaysian government sought ways to foster unity among the various races in Malaysia. One of the methods used to encourage unity is the Rukun Negara.
