Sabah Electricity reports stable power supply to KK airport
Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) today reported uninterrupted stable supply of electricity to the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) where malfunctioning runway lights forced the closure of the airport last night.
SESB managing director Abd Razak Sallim said an investigation of the SESB electrical installation channelling electricity to KKIA found it functioning well without any disruption to the supply.
"SESB is prepared to work with the Malaysia Airports Berhad management to identify the cause of the problem," he said in a statement.
Abd Razak said SESB would continue to monitor the stability of electricity supply to KKIA and would ensure that there was no disruption of electricity supply to critical locations such as hospitals and airports throughout Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan.
Flights in and out of KKIA resumed today as airport authorities worked to fix the lights problem.
KKIA was closed last night after the runway lights malfunctioned, forcing several incoming and outgoing flights to be cancelled or rescheduled and leaving many passengers stranded.
