Sabah police identify woman allegedly circulating false news

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said the police had identified the woman, in her 40's, to facilitate investigations into the circulation of a three-minute voice recording to several quarters and the local media on Sept 25.

He said this at a news conference after attending a Hari Raya Aidiladha function at the Nur Islam Mosque, Sabah contingent police headquarters here Sunday.

Jalaluddin said the case was investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation.

Meanwhile, the police are also investigating a report on another individual for spreading false news on the same incident, in Pitas.

"We have sought help from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to trace those responsible for spreading the news through WhatsApp and the internet," said Jalaluddin.

Meanwhile, he said the curfew imposed at six districts in the east coast of Sabah, namely Sandakan, Kinabatangan, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Semporna and Tawau would be extended until Oct 21.

He said he and the district police chiefs of the areas affected had carried out visits to resorts and caged fish areas such as Pulau Mabul, Semporna, to obtain feedback on the extension of the curfew.
