KOTA KINABALU:The Sabah Public Works Department (PWD) is to set up a data bank on road snags in all 73 state constituencies to ensure the woes are resolved according to priority, said Sabah Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

Bung Moktar who is also the state Works Minister said with a data bank, the government would ensure which roads needed repairs or urgent attention.

“The data bank would upload information on damaged roads which needed repairs according to their urgency. Road problems in Sabah have been going on for a long time and we need to think of ways to address the issues.

“Apart  from that, we are also getting the cooperation of all parties to contribute ideas and not just to criticise,” he said when speaking at Sabah PWD New Year Message and Excellent Service ceremony here today.

Bung Moktar said as the new Sabah Works Minister he gave his assurance to prioritise problems on roads as well as water and electricity supply in Sabah.

However, he also hoped he would be given time to resolve the problems of water and electricity supply as he had just taken the post three months ago.

Meanwhile, when speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Bung Moktar said the dam which should have been built at Papar, would be moved to Penampang district.

“We will continue to build the dam but its location has been shifted due to several factors. If the dam is built in Papar, the water supply capacity would only be good for up to 60 years.

Nonetheless, if it it built in Penampang, the water supply capacity would be sufficient for 85 years...that is why we decide to move the dam construction,” he said.
