Sabah quake: Weak earthquake occurs 90km northwest of Labuan

Early Saturday, a weak earthquake, with a magnitude of 3.0 on the Richter scale, occurred at 7.35am in Kota Belud.

A statement issued by the department said, the epicentre of the earthquake was located at 6.2 degrees north and 116.5 degrees east, about 25km southeast of Kota Belud.

The tremors were also felt in Ranau, the statement added.

The 6.0-magnitude struck Sabah at 7.15am Friday and is the strongest that hit Sabah since 1991.

According to the US Geological Survey, the quake struck at a depth of 10 kilometres with its epicentre located 19 kilometres from the town of Ranau and 54 kilometres from Kota Kinabalu.

The State government on Saturday declared a day of mourning for Sabah to mark the deaths of 13 people on Mount Kinabalu following the devastation.
