The RM70 million subsidy for hill paddy in the Budget 2015 was pleasing news for farmers in Sabah and Sarawak.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Joseph Kurup said it was a significant development as more than 70 per cent of farmers particularly in the interior of both states were paddy hill growers.
"We had been requesting for such subsidy for years. With this provision, I believe the farmers can further increase their production," he told reporters after the Penang-level Unity Week Celebrations here today.
Meanwhile, Joseph who is also Pensiangan member of parliament said the substantial RM30 billion allocation for Sabah and Sarawak proved that the government had never sidelined the East Malaysian states.
