The Negeri Sembilan government's decision to corporatise Jabatan Bekalan Air Negeri Sembilan (JBANS) into Syarikat Air Negeri Sembilan Sdn Bhd (SAINS) has led to higher revenue and reduce its debt with the federal government.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the state government had to borrow RM2.5 billion from the federal government to cover the cost of repairing pipes and building facilities due to insufficient collection.
"SAINS contributed some RM22 million to the state's revenue last year via the sale of processed raw water," he told a press conference after the Negeri Sembilan state government's monthly assembly here on Tuesday.
SAINS took over the management of the water supply system in Negeri Sembilan from JBANS in 2009 to ensure the supply of quality water to users in the state.
