Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak has expressed full support to the statement by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman on the UMNO Supreme Council's decision to sack Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir from the party for indiscipline.
Musa, who is also Sabah UMNO liaison committee chairman, was quoted as saying over the weekend that Sabah UMNO unanimously supported the move as well as endorsed the decision to suspend Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal for the same reason.
Salleh concurred with Musa's assertion that members especially leaders have a responsibility to respect, to be disciplined and to abide by the rules of the party.
"No one is above the party's constitution. If a leader or a member goes against it then appropriate action must be taken for the good of the party," Salleh said.
He was speaking to Bernama after attending a breaking-fast reception with Sabah students of tertiary education institutions and universities, organised by Sabah Foundation at Putra Word Trade Centre here last night.
Musa was also present.
He was also asked to comment on the decision of Semporna UMNO division vice-chief Datuk Dr Jaujan Sambakong, leaders of three wings and 300 branch chiefs to resign en bloc from the party yesterday.
Salleh, who is also Sabah UMNO liaison committee deputy chairman, urged party members to remain calm and not succumb to political propaganda by those out to destroy the party.
"Leaders come and go, but because of the loyalty of the members of UMNO towards the party, UMNO remains strong," he said.
