The Ministry of Health (MOH) is in the process of sampling all illegal immigrants in two detention centres in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur and Semenyih, Selangor.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, the sampling involved nearly 3,000 individuals who also included personnel in the two depots.
“The case involved illegal immigrants who were arrested before the Movement Control Order (MCO). Later, the illegal immigrants from the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in Masjid India entered.
"At the depot, they do not live in single rooms, they live in dorms ... they live in large numbers.
"So, the situation (caused) an infection or infection from one of them that eventually spread," he said at a press conference here on Friday.
Commenting further, Ismail Sabri said those found positive would be sent to the COVID-19 Low Risk Centre at the Malaysia Agricultural Expo Park, Serdang (MAEPS) for treatment.
In fact, Ismail Sabri said, for any detainee depot found to have a positive case, all its personnel were instructed to wear complete personal protective clothing (PPE) to prevent infection.
