KLUANG: The search and rescue (SAR) operation to locate Md Rajihan Junaidi who went missing after his Proton Waja car was swept away by floodwaters at Batu 18, Jalan Kluang-Mersing entered the third day today.
The SAR operation is conducted by 32 officers and personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART), Civil Defence Force (APM), and the police.
It is understood that the SAR operation is focused on the area near a freshwater fish pond surrounded by a banana orchard about 100 metres from where the victim's car was found yesterday.
In the 5.30 pm incident on Saturday (Jan 2), Md Rajihan, 28, who was driving a Proton Waja vehicle accompanied by his wife Khairunnisa Ibrahim, 25, decided to drive through the floods at Batu 18, Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing, Kahang near Kluang before strong currents swept the car to the right side of the road.
However, the victim managed to break the car window to allow his pregnant wife to escape, who was later saved by members of the public.
Bernama's attempts to interview the grieving wife proved futile as she was still traumatised by the incident.
Khairunnisa, who is three months pregnant, is believed to be staying with her family in Parit Raja, Batu Pahat.
