Elected representatives must give serious attention to the warning issued by Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg who wants them to give their best performance to the people.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said Abang Johari and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had the absolute right to determine the performance of the elected representatives.
"Both of the leaders also undoubtedly have their own method to assess whether the elected representatives have fulfil their duties and responsibilities.
"In fact it should be that way because we must be based on achievement, if we perform...must be a reward such as the 'carrot and stick' concept," he told reporters when met at the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) presentation to nearly 2,000 recipients from the Petra Jaya Parliamentary constituency here today.
Fadillah, who is also Petra Jaya MP, was commenting on the warning by Abang Johari to the elected representatives to carry out the tasks entrusted to them or not be renominated in the coming elections.
The Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth chairman also expressed the committment of the movement behind Abang Johari for wanting the elected representatives to deliver well.
Asked to comment on another warning by Abang Johari that elected representatives should not seek business opportunities, Fadillah said, as the people's representatives, they should give full attention upon being elected.
"Since before it has been a practice, especially in PBB (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu) that we have two choices, either we want to be involved in politics, lets be politicians who give our service to our people, state and country," he said.
On the other hand, he said, elected representatives like MPs were allowed to be involved in business but should not hold any position or take advantage of their political position to engage in business ventures. --Bernama
