July 22 has been declared a public holiday in Sarawak, to commemorate the state's independence from British rule.
Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem made the announcement while officiating at the grand finale of the programme, 'Sejiwa Senada 2016' at Matang@Metro City here, today.
The public holiday will be implemented this year.
"It is to acknowledge the struggles of our past leaders," said Adenan.
