Eleven officers and a staff of the Sarawak Immigration Department were today ordered to be held in remand for seven days for alleged corruption.
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Zulhairil Sulaiman following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
It was reported yesterday that the suspects, comprising five men and six women, aged between 33 and 55, were picked up at various locations, including Kuching International Airport, Pending immigration office and the Semuja detention depot, Serian, in an operation.
They were believed to be accepting bribes to protect illegal immigrants.-- Bernama
