Sarawak police bust online gambling syndicate making RM150,000 monthly

KUCHING:Police here crippled an online gambling syndicate with the arrests of 12 individuals in a raid at a residential unit in Jalan Batu Kawa here yesterday.
Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Dennis Leong said that the syndicate had converted the house into a call centre, and was raking in between RM100,000 and RM150,000 a month from the illegal activities.
“The suspects aged between 18 and 28 were nabbed at about 7.30 pm and they consist of six foreign women, five foreign men and a local woman,” he said in a statement here today.
Leong said in the raid which was conducted by a team from the Sarawak Police Contingent Anti-Vice, Gaming and Secret Societies Unit (D7), 11 laptops believed to have been used in the online gambling activities were also seized.
Meanwhile, he said electricity supply has been cut off to 676 premises that were used for illegal gambling activities through a joint operation with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) from Jan 1 to Oct 17.
