Sarawak RTD aims for 'zero' express bus accidents
The Sarawak Road Transport Department (RTD) is targeting to achieve zero express bus accident cases throughout the Chinese New Year period from January 24 to February 9 this year, said its senior assistant director Kuek Jui Hock.
He said 150 RTD enforcement officers and personnel would be deployed throughout Sarawak during the operation, to be held simultaneously nationwide during that period.
"The enforcement officers will pose as express and stage bus passengers to detect bus drivers who commit traffic offences during the trips to their respective destinations," he told a news conference on Friday.
He said, the department would also pay extra attention to buses ferrying high number of passengers and reprimand those exceeding the passenger limit.
Police road blocks will also be at several locations along the Pan Borneo Highway to catch drivers flouting the law.
He also advised heavy vehicles to refrain from operating during the festive season in view of the high traffic volume during the period.
