Schools given two weeks to submit audit report on school infrastructure

The Education Ministry has given a period of two weeks for all schools to submit an audit report to the district Education Office on the state of their infrastructure or school equipment that are at high risk of causing an accident.

Its minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said his ministry would receive the audit report to enable immediate action to be taken to repair damaged infrastructure classified as an 'emergency' after it is sent to the state Education Office.

"Normally according to the procedure, we have a form that we have to fill regarding the damage and school to be reported but this time we only want one or two infrastructures that are really dilapidated and need urgent repairs.

"After two weeks we look at the audit and see which school that needs urgent action to be taken such as school field, school gate or other places that are deemed to be dangerous," he told reporters after the state Education Department Aidilfitri gathering here today.

He was commenting on issues involving deaths due to school infrastructure, among them, a security guard at a school in Miri, Sarawak who was killed by a falling school gate yesterday.

Prior to that incident, a Form Two student in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tengku Indera Putera 2, Gua Musang in Kelantan was killed after being crushed by a falling goal post at the school field.
