JOHOR BAHRU: Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has reminded all parties that schools are a place to foster the spirit of unity among the people of Johor, not for dividing society.
In a post uploaded on his Facebook page HRH Crown Prince of Johor, Tunku Ismail explained that he had received information about the incident at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Dato' Bentara Luar, Batu Pahat, which caused controversy recently on racial requirements for registration of co-curricular activities.
“I have told the school principal and the Johor State Education Department (JPN) that this incident should not happen again in any school in the state of Johor. This action is not in line with Bangsa Johor which fosters inter-racial unity under one identity for all the people of Johor.
"This incident must be avoided to maintain public wellbeing and the unity of the people," said Tunku Ismail in the post.
Earlier, Tunku Ismail had granted an audience to SMK Principal Dato 'Bentara Luar, Abdul Razak Hamid: Batu Pahat District Officer, Ismail Abu; JPN acting director Sahilon Abd Halim and Batu Pahat District Education Officer, Dr Suhaimi Ismail.
Last Saturday, the school's co-curricular form was posted on social media. It set conditions for the participation of Form One students in certain co-curricular activities and sports according to race.
