The greatness of a school should not only be measured by its academic achievement and co-curriculum activities, but also the individuals it produces in contributing towards National Transformation 2050 (TN50).
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said schools should not merely produce professionals, scientists and leaders, but also those with good character and personality.
"This is important, because children who will one day flood the job market in various sectors will also contribute to the success of the country in 2050, which is to make Malaysia among the top 20 countries in the world."
He was speaking at the 'SAS Multi-talented Achievers - From Great to Exceptional' programme at Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah (SAS), here last night.
The programme organised by the SAS Parents Teachers Association (PTA) aims to raise funds to help the school cover additional costs for character building activities and national-level competitions.
More than RM600,000 in donations were received during the event from VIPs, corporations, and parents of students.
Ahmad Zahid said he placed great hopes on SAS to produce quality human capital for the country's future.
He also commended the PTA for raising huge contributions for the school, and hoped such programmes would continue to be held in the future.
