The search and rescue operation resumed today to find one more fisherman still missing following the sinking of a boat in the waters off Muka Head, Teluk Bahang near here last Saturday.
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Maritime District 2 director Rozali Mohd Said said the search area had also been expanded to a radius of 15 nautical mile from where the boat was believed to have sunk.
"MMEA has deployed a helicopter, a ship (KM Kimanis) and a boat, while the Marine Police, Civil Defence Department and Fire and Rescue Department deployed one boat each.
"Forty-eight search members from the four agencies have been deployed for the operation which began at 8am," he said here today.
Law Kiaw Ming, 56, went missing when the fishing boat he was in along with two other fishermen sank about 1.4 nautical miles north of Muka Head, about 10am on Saturday.
The two fishermen were rescued by other fishermen who happened to be nearby.
Rozali said the team faced difficulties due to the rain and strong waves up to 3.5 metres.
Meanwhile, Law's nephew who only wanted to be known as Ah Chong, 36, said all his family members from Batu Kurau, Perak, were still hoping that the victim would be found safe.
"If not, we hope that at least they will find his body," he said.
