International non-governmental organisation Global Witness has uploaded a second video yesterday entitled “Outtakes – Inside Malaysia’s Shadow State”.
The video, with a duration of 2 minutes and 50 seconds, shows lawyer Huang Lung Ong introducing the Billion Venture deal to a Global Witness’ investigator.
Meanwhile, the Advocates’ Association of Sarawak (AAS) has referred Huang Lung Ong and Alvin Chong Chee Vun, the two Sarawak lawyers implicated in the first video entitled “Inside Malaysia’s Shadow State” that went viral on social media to the Advocates Inquiry Committee this afternoon.
The committee is an independent disciplinary body separate from the AAS, to conduct its inquiry into the possibility of any professional misconduct under the laws and regulations governing the legal profession in Sarawak.
“The matter is now in the capable hands of the relevant authorities. Until investigations are concluded and more facts come to light, the Advocates Association of Sarawak advises the public at large to allow the law to take its course and refrain from speculation,” said the AAS president Khairil Azmi Mohd Hasbie.
Meanwhile, when contacted by Astro AWANI, AAS treasurer Liew Tang Chieh said the two lawyers are still able to practise as normal despite the inquiry. However, no time frame were given.
"It's until the inquiry committee come out with its verdict but there are no specific time frame stipulated by the law," he said.
The first video was uploaded on March 18 and has attracted 538,414 views. When contacted, the AAS is still investigating the second video.
