The Attorney General's Chambers believes the punishment provided in Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 should be revised.
Referring to the case of a woman who was fined RM100 by the Magistrate's Court for an offence in Johor Bahru yesterday, Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali said it was time to review the sentence under the provisions so that more appropriate penalties could be imposed.
Mohamed Apandi said the sentence against the woman was already the maximum sentence allowed under the current provision.
"Therefore, an appeal over the sentence will not be made," he said in a statement here, Friday.
On Thursday, Tan Yeoh Foong,53, pleaded guilty to writing a rude word with the purpose to provoke after getting a traffic summons ticket on December 14.

Tan allegedly wrote the word 'babi' (pig) on a summons ticket at Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Johor Bahru, at 8.55pm on Wednesday. -- Bernama
