KUALA LUMPUR: Over 128,000 Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veterans under 60 have the opportunity to sign up for a gig career through Code 7, which offers security-based services, Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz said.
He said that they had placed a target of 10,000 veterans to join Code 7 for its introductory first phase in Klang Valley this year.
"This is an initiative between the Veteran Affairs Department and Code 7 Tech Sdn Bhd, which will provide new opportunities to veterans to have a wider choice of second careers during the post COVID-19 period.
"Code 7 provides security services to licenced security firms close to registered customers to take care of the security of their premises," he told reporters at the launch of the Gig Economy Career for Veterans event at Wisma Perwira ATM today.
He said veterans' participation in the Code 7 initiative is significant as they have the necessary expertise and skills.
"Under Code 7, all participating veterans will be offered an attractive salary scale and enjoy more flexibility in terms of time and location when they sign up.
"For instance, they can act as responders in a certain area where there is a crime-related matter that has been previously undertaken by the People's Volunteer Corps (RELA) or others," he said.
The launch was also attended by Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Affendi Buang, Chief of Army Gen Tan Sri Zamrose Mohd Zain and Chief of Navy Tan Sri Mohd Reza Mohd Sany.
