Security companies need to make sure that their security guards undergo mental and emotional health screenings to avoid any untoward incidents.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the screenings were very important to determine the security guards' ability to perform their duties, especially in the banking industry.
"The police and the Home Ministry will review the procedures of hiring of security guards for banks.
"In addition, we will also make sure that the security guards working for banks have good mental health and will and not act beyond expectations," he told reporters here today.
He was commenting on an amok incident involving a security guard who also stabbed a bank officer to death and injured another at a bank in Taman Molek, Johor Bahru yesterday.
Noor Rashid said this was the second case involving security guard in the country.
On Oct 23, 2013, a bank officer was shot in the head at close range by a security guard at Jalan USJ Sentral 2, Subang Jaya.
