Rayer had infuriated UMNO members and Malay NGOs with his 'UMNO celaka' remark during the state assembly session on May 20.
The sedition case against Seri Delima assemblyman R.S.N Rayer, which was set to proceed at the Penang Sessions Court today has been postponed to another date yet to be fixed.
Rayer's lawyer, Gobind Singh Deo said he received a notice on the postponement from state prosecution head Datuk Razali Che Ani this morning.
"We have no idea why, and it doesn't often happen. We will seek an explanation from the Attorney-General," he told reporters at the court here today.
Yesterday, North East district police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said the 43-year-old DAP assemblyman, who is also a lawyer, would be charged today under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948.
Fourteen police reports were lodged against Rayer after he infuriated UMNO members and Malay NGOs for his 'UMNO celaka' remark during the state assembly session on May 20.
He had also allegedly refused to apologise or withdraw the remark and allegedly repeated it at a DAP public forum while campaigning in the Bukit Gelugor by-election.
