Selangor govt should not brag about RM8 million spent on PPR flats - Noh

Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar on Thursday reminded the Selangor government not to brag or ask for reimbursement of the RM8 million it spent to repair public housing project (PPR) flats in the state.

He said the amount was very small compared to the RM20 million spent by the federal government to repair Lembah Subang 1 PPR flats in 2009.

"The state government spent only RM8 million for the maintenance of the PPR flats in Selangor, while the federal government allocated RM100 million to build the Lembah Subang 1 PPR flats before handing it over to the state government to be managed in 2001.

"But in 2009, we spent another RM20 million to repair the PPR flats without any profit," he told reporters after opening the 36th annual general meeting of the Tanjong Karang Area Farmers Organisation here yesterday.

Noh said this in response to Selangor Exco for Housing, Building Management and Urban Settlement, Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad's remarks, asking the Federal Government to reimburse the RM8 million spent by the state government to repair several PPR flats in the state, if the federal government wished to take over the management of PPR flats in Selangor.

Iskandar gave the ultimatum on Wednesday, saying Noh, who is also Selangor UMNO liaison committee chairman, was trying to be a 'hero' by politicising the PPR issue in the state.

On Tuesday, Noh said, the ministry will take over 'problematic' PPR from the state government following several reports of serious drugs activities and poorly- maintained facilities there.
