Selangor KPDNHEP inspects popular halal restaurant for allegedly serving pork

SHAH ALAM:The Selangor Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) inspected and seized items in the form of chicken at a famous restaurant in Subang Jaya yesterday, following a viral video claiming that the curry noodle sold at the premises contained pork.

Selangor KPDNHEP director, Muhamad Zikril Azan Abdullah said the inspection carried out by five enforcement officers, however, found the restaurant has a halal certificate from the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) which is valid until Nov 30.

"According to the restaurant manager, he employs three Myanmar nationals as cooks.

“Further inspection at the kitchen section of the restaurant found the raw ingredients used to prepare the curry noodle. The main raw material, believed to be chicken meat, was seized for laboratory testing by experts," he said in a statement yesterday.

Also seized in the inspection were a JAKIM Halal Certificate and the supplier’s raw material delivery documents, said Muhamad Zikril Azan.

He said the manager of the premises said that the supply of raw materials was ordered by the headquarters of the company.

Muhamad Zikril Azan said the case was being investigated under the Trade Descriptions (Definition of Halal) Order 2011 and if convicted could be fined under Order 5 of the Trade Descriptions Order 2011.

He added that KPDNHEP Selangor would continue to monitor and inspect to ensure JAKIM halal certificate holders comply with the rules as well as emphasising on cleanliness to safeguard Muslim consumers in the country.
