Selangor MB personally supported GST but says it is not suitable in the near future

However, he said, it was not suitable to be implemented in the near future as the present income of the people were still not equally distributed.

"It is not yet the time to implement the GST, because income is not equally distributed. As such, when the tax is imposed, the lower-income group will be burdened," he told reporters after attending the handing-over-of-the-keys ceremony of the Darul Ibadah Mosque in Ijok here.

Abdul Khalid was commenting on the rally to protest the GST at Dataran Merdeka on Thursday where opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Azmin Ali, PKR vice-president R. Sivarasa and PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu were also present.

He also said the rally was not to protest against the GST but Pakatan Rakyat was afraid of its effectiveness when implemented.

"GST is not a new thing, in fact many countries have already implemented it...we are only afraid of its effects," he said.

Earlier, Abdul Khalid witnessed the handing over of the keys by the Director of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department Ahmad Zahrin Mohd Saad to mosque official Mohd Ngasmawi Mufti.
