The Selangor police's Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) has recorded 12 achievements in crime prevention statewide in less than a month since it was set up.
The unit was launched in December.
Selangor police chief Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said this included detaining offenders involved in vehicle theft, robbery, house break-in, snatch theft and extreme obscenity.
"The first achievement was seen a day after the URB began duty on Dec 21, involving a case of vehicle theft," he told reporters at the Selangor contingent police headquarters here on Friday.
Earlier, he presented certificates of appreciation to 22 URB personnel for excellence in carrying out their duty.
Tun Hisan said 268 URB personnel at 16 police stations in the state carried out patrols in specific areas to reduce crime.
The unit's latest achievement was the arrest of two suspects, each for robbing a convenience store on Jan 2, and a case involving extreme obscenity, a day later, both in Ampang.
The URB was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Dec 19, whereby, 1,000 motorcycles were allocated to the police for patrol purposes.
So far, 560 Kawasaki Ninja 250 (STDX) motorcycles were given to the URB while the rest would be handed over in March.
