Selangor, Perak, Johor has the most Syiah followers, says JAKIM
The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) has identified 1,500 Syiah practitioners across the country, with the most active being in Selangor, Perak and Johor.
Jakim Research Division (Faith) director Mohd Aizam Mas'od said, at present, legal action was being taken against the Syiah practitioners, with cooperation from state Islamic councils and departments.
He said due to lack of evidence, most state Islamic councils and departments were having problems to take those involved to Syariah courts, but Jakim would convene meetings and discussions with them to find suitable solutions to the problem.
Mohd Aizam said this to reporters after giving a talk on Syiah teachings at a the seminar on Faith organised jointly by Jakim, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) and Penerbitan Dian Darulnaim Sdn Bhd here today.
"What's important is for us to continue monitoring and taking stern action against these Syiah practitioners and show them our determination to curb the spread of this deviant Syiah teaching," he added.
