Selangor records 1,000 dengue cases within a week
WORRYING: As at last Friday, a total of 42,478 dengue cases with 59 deaths have been reported in the state this year.
The level of dengue infections in Selangor is getting serious with 1,000 new cases recorded within a week, according to Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali.
He said as at last Friday, a total of 42,478 dengue cases with 59 deaths were reported in the state this year.
"That is indeed a very big number as compared to 23,500 cases recorded throughout 2013.
"We don't dismiss the possibility that the current uncertain weather condition is also contributing factor to Aedes mosquito breeding," he told reporters after launching the state-level anti-dengue programme, dubbed 'Terjah and Musnah Aedes' here Monday.
Mohamed Azmin said the state government would cooperate with all local authorities to monitor potential Aedes mosquito breeding grounds in a bid to combat dengue.
"I personally will go to the ground and conduct spot checks on residential areas, construction sites and other areas this Sunday," he said, adding that the people were also advised to clean up their residential areas from becoming Aedes mosquito breeding grounds.
