Selangor Umno wants the authorities to carry out a thorough investigation into the alleged conspiracy to topple the Barisan Nasional (BN) government, said its chairman Datuk Seri Noh Omar.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had said several Malaysians will be asked to give statements to the police following the latest disclosure by the Thai Police in their investigation of Xavier Andre Justo over his alleged blackmail of his ex-employer PetroSaudi International Ltd.
Last Thursday, Thai police confirmed that Justo, a Swiss national, had met some key Malaysian opposition politicians at a hotel in Singapore to sell confidential information on PetroSaudi.
The Thai police arrested Justo, 49, on June 22 on charges of blackmailing PSI, an international company based in Saudi Arabia linked to a controversy surrounding 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Following the alleged sale of the documents, several emails and documents were published by the Sarawak Report news portal that led to allegations against 1MDB.
Noh said the revelation by Justo proved that a serious crime has been committed and those responsible must be brought to face justice.
"If what Justo alleged is true, they must be treated as traitors to the country," he told Bernama when contacted.
Noh also challenged those mentioned by Justo to come forward and deny if what Justo said was not true.
Following the Sarawak Report and the Wall Street Journal, a special task force is currently investigating claims reported in US business paper the Wall Street Journal that US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) from state-owned 1MDB was channeled to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s personal bank accounts.
Meanwhile, Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali who is also the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) when asked to comment on Justo's revelation, said the question must be posed to those who made such allegations.
He was met by reporters after attending the Selangor state Aidilfitri open house at the Shah Alam Stadium, here today.
