Selangor water disruptions: NGO urges govt to set up RCI

In the memorandum the group called on the government to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to make a detailed investigation into the real reason behind the Selangor government’s failure to address the water supply disruptions in the state.

"The best way to investigate and find a solution to the problem is to establish a RCI to address the never ending disruptions that is happening only in Selangor. An action plan should be laid to put a stop to this all too often water cuts in Selangor," he told the media after handing over the memorandum.

Selventhiran, a native of Selangor claims that since 2008, water supply disruptions had been occurring in Selangor at an average of 20 times a year, and often times supply was restored after a long while.

"This is burdensome to the local community especially children, the elderly and those who live in high-rise buildings or flats.

"Each time there is a water cut, traders will suffer huge losses as they will not be able to operate particularly, restaurant owners and food stall operators. Hospitals, dialysis centres, homes for the elderly and childcare centres too are badly affected by the water disruptions," he added.
