Selfish Bersih 4.0 organisers focused on toppling govt - IGP
KHALID: They (Bersih) ask to clean this, clean that, but they themselves are dirty and do not want to follow the law.
What's so 'bersih' (clean) about Bersih 4.0?
These are the sentiments of the inspector-general of police who has deemed the organisers of Bersih 4.0 as nothing less than selfish and fuelled by an agenda to topple the government.
He said this was based on their willingness to go ahead with demonstrations which would affect the daily lives of the public, especially traders and taxi drivers.
According to Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, the name 'bersih' was merely a rhetorical title, but in reality, the organisers did not dare to follow the rule of law.
"They ask to clean this, clean that, but they themselves are dirty and do not want to follow the law.
"They do not care about the interests of others, they only want to protect their rights of freely gathering at Sogo (KL) and so on, without taking into account the rights of taxi drivers and traders.
"Let's try to see, when they hold rallies, all the shops have to close.
Don't they (traders) have any rights, please consider the rights of others as well," he said after the 11th passing-out parade ceremony and commissioning of Kor Suksis cadets at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) here today.
Also present at the event were Johor police chief Datuk Rusli Ahmad and Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department director Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani. According to Khalid, he also noted the Bersih rally was no longer held to fight for clean elections but rather, focused on toppling the government.
"I would like to send a reminder...if this is their intention (of toppling the government), the police will take preventive measures and I would like to remind Bersih organisers to be careful," he warned.
On Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's 'expose' yesterday on the alleged existence of a movement to topple the government which was masterminded by an UMNO figure, with support from opposition members of parliament, Khalid said the police were monitoring the current development.
"If any individual or political party tries to topple the current government without following the Constitution and the law (it is a serious crime), we will take action," he said.
On Kor Suksis, he said the training syllabus was being reviewed to improve the force.
A total of 1,026 Kor Suksis trainees received their training completion certificates during the ceremony.
