A senator has called controversial blogger Alvin Tan 'trash' for insulting Islam.
Senator Koh Chin Han said as a non-Muslim, he strongly condemned the act of provocation which also humiliated the non-Muslims.
"If he is in our country, he should be brought to the court and charged for sedition. We can't keep 'trash' like Alvin Tan in this country.
"But what can we do, we leave it to the Home Ministry to take further action against Alvin Tan," he said when debating the Sedition (Amendment) Bill 2015 in the Dewan Negara, here today.
Senator Datuk Lim Nget Yoon said the government should no longer tolerate any act of provocation from Tan.
"We can't tolerate this anymore. I urge the government to do something about him," said Lim.
Tan or his real name, Tan Jye Yee, fled to the United States to escape prosecution under the Sedition Act and seek political asylum.
Earlier, the sitting approved amendments on three bills, namely the Penal Code (Amendment) Bill 2015, Prevention of Crime (Amendment) Bill 2015 and Security Offences (Special Measures) (Amendment) Bill 2015.
The sitting continues tomorrow.
